Michael Thomas (CPA) is the founder, Chairman and Investor in USAF I, II, III and Thomas USAF Group, LLC. He founded USAF I, the original stripper of SBA and USDA loans, in 1986. In 2011 he founded his fifth USAF fund, McDonald USAF, LP and in 2015 he announced the formation of his sixth fund, USAF 6, LP. Mike has been in the government guaranteed loan business for over 35 years with $2.5 Billion in loans originated and $2.5 Billion in loans purchased in the secondary market. He headed the Small Business Administration (SBA) Transition and Reorganization for President Jimmy Carter. As a partner at Ernst & Young, he set up the Ethanol Guarantee Loan Program for the US Department of Energy.
Mr. Thomas co-authored the SBA Model Service Provider Agreement. He founded and managed eight lending and investment institutions specializing in SBA and USDA loans, including B&I Lending, the #1 USDA RD Lender in the nation from 1997 to 2001. He also served as a founder and President of the Rural Lenders’ Roundtable in both 1999 and 2000.
Mr. Thomas is a frequent speaker at Rural Economic Development conferences. He currently functions as the Chairman of Thomas USAF and Thomas Financial Group, LLC.
CEO & President of Thomas Financial Group
Thomas Kimsey, CEO & President of Thomas Financial Group, LLC, manages and oversees more than $100 Million in loan origination and underwriting annually. With over 26 years in SBA and USDA lending, Thomas has established a nationwide industry footprint and is recognized by associates for his leadership skills, involvement in the community and passion and determination to best serve clients’ needs. Thomas excels by working directly with business owners, partner banks and the USDA/SBA, giving him a firsthand insight to facilitate deals.
Prior to rejoining Thomas Financial in 2009, Thomas served as Vice President of community banks, specializing in Small Business Lending. As Vice President, he established successful SBA Departments and developed a $20+ Million portfolio is less than one year. As a prior small business owner himself, Thomas understands the challenges small businesses face on a daily basis and can use his prior experience to help companies overcome financial and operational obstacles.
Thomas attended Georgia State University where he completed his BBA in Accounting. Thomas is very active in the lending community and serves on numerous committees which allows him to stay current on new developments within the Government Guaranteed Loan Programs. Thomas is a member of Leadership Hall County, Chairman of Riverbend Baptist Church’s Finance Committee, Former Treasurer of Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club, Former Chairperson of North Hall Middle School Council and is a member of the North Hall Community Education Foundation.

Kathryn T. MorrisExecutive Vice President
Kathryn Morris rejoined Thomas Financial Group in 2011 as a Vice President and Loan Officer. She is currently the Executive Vice President of the company and works with small business owners to facilitate their financial needs within the realm of SBA and USDA loans. She works closely with the client through all aspects of the loan process from origination, underwriting and closing. Kathryn specializes in the hospitality and manufacturing industries. Recent loan transactions for 2016 include Pharmaceutical, Wood Treatment and Metal Fabrication companies with total loan volume exceeding $20MM.
Prior to joining Thomas Financial Group, she worked at Arthur Andersen for four years in the Appraisal and Valuation Group in the Atlanta and New York offices. Kathryn performed business valuations with a concentration in commercial and industrial real estate appraisal. As a certified appraiser, Kathryn also performed commercial appraisals throughout the State of Georgia for a local MAI Appraiser.
Kathryn attended the University of Georgia where she completed her BBA in Real Estate.
